• How do I register a .ly domain name?

  Start by checking if the domain is available on the Register.ly website  Follow the order wizard to create an account and to make the payment.

  Or you can start the registration process first by creating your account using this link https://my.register.ly/register.php and then you can start searching for your domain.

• Can I register International Domain Names (IDN) under the .LY extension?

  Unfortunately, IDN registration is not available on the .LY system yet.

  As soon as NIC.LY starts the registration of IDNs under the .LY system we will inform all our clients. If you would like to be notified of this and other .LY news, please add your email address to Register.ly Newsletter. In footer, you should see the subscription form.

• Which .ly domains are not allowed for registration?

  Any .LY domain names may be registered, except domains containing obscene and indecent names/phrases, including words of a sexual nature; furthermore domain names may not contain words/phrases or abbreviations insulting religion or politics, or be related to gambling and to the lottery industry or be contrary to Libyan law or Islamic morality.

  In principle, you are free to choose the domain name. However, you cannot choose names that are in use by other organizations, or names that for various reasons are prohibited or reserved for technical, ethical or national considerations. You also have a duty to ensure that your registration of a domain name does not infringe another party’s right to the same name.

  Remember that the responsibility always rests with you. By registering a .ly domain, you agreeing to the terms of service. If you fail to comply with the terms of service, this will lead to the termination of your .ly domain services. If you are not sure whether you can use the name, please do not hesitate to contact us.

• How do I transfer a .ly domain name?

  Domain transfer confirmations will only be accepted from the domain owner, and specifically from the address that appears on the domain whois, under “Registrant”.To transfer a .ly domain name into your account, please follow these steps:

  • Login to your account with Register.ly
  • Go to the domain transfer page Domain Checker
  • Enter the domain name that you would like to transfer into your account, then click on “Check Availability”
  • If the domain is available for transfer, it will show as “Available! Order Now”, click on “Add to Cart”
  • Just follow the order wizard to complete the payment and order process.
  • A domain transfer fee will be applied.
  • The domain transfer fee is equal to 1 year’s renewal fees on any .ly domain.
  • After the domain has been transferred into your account, it will be renewed for 1 year (included in the transfer fee).
  • The domain transfer will stay as “Pending” until the current domain owner approves the transfer by sending an email to support[@]register.ly
• Who can apply for .LY domain names?

  Anyone can register any of the .LY domain names except for the gov.ly and edu.ly extensions. (These extensions require an official letter from the applicant for proof of identity).

• Do you provide “domain privacy” services for .ly domains?

  Currently this service is unavailable for .ly domains but we are working to add it soon.

  Please note that you do not have to supply a private address or phone number for the contact persons registered on the domain. Instead, you may supply the contact information for the organisation, as long as the contact person can be reached by email.
